mites

one of my rir is losing feathers at a rapid rate. I found mites on them so i have dusted and they seem to have gone. The leghorns didnt have any ,neither did my astrolorp. The reds all had them. Is this the cause of the feather loss? I live in australia and it is winter here so i dont think it is just general moulting. Even her legs are bald

Yes, it could be.

The coop also needs to be treated, and everything retreated in 7-10 days to kill the nits that have hatched.
