Okay, I was carrying my little royal palm around and I noticed some little black bugs on my hands. They were quite small, almost like baby fleas. Upon inspection, there doesn't appear to be too many of them on the turkey itself. Are they mites? If so, how do I get rid of them? Can I wash the turkey to get them off of him/her? (He/she lives inside) Also, can they spread to our parrots? We have five cockatiels, four parakeets, and a quaker parrot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Whether its mites, fleas, or whatever, just dust all your birds with Sevin. That will do the job.

Sevin 5 is a pesticide for garden bugs. It works wonders on poultry. Its a fine powder and you just dust them with it. Turkey, chicken, birds, in general like to take dust baths so I will turn over some nice dirt for them and sprinkle some sevin in and mix well. They can dust themselfs. You can buy it almost anywhere.

Cool! Is there any risk about applying it around other animals? The room the little guy lives in is also home to a couple dog kennels, some parrots, a few rabbits, a couple hamsters, a couple gerbils, a mouse, and whatever cat passes through.

If you wish to not use chemicals you can use food grad diatomaceous earth you can dose there food from time to time to take care of worms you can dust there coops and the birds and will kill fleas and mites on any animals I use it on my Chickens and Turkeys and Dogs......Do some research and see if its something you might use.
Also its cheep to use I spread it in the yard for all sorts of insects and it works for me.
You just have to re-aply it after a hard rain.

Does it have to be the powder? Or can it be the spray? Also where do I apply it to my bird? If thee mites were to get on our parrots, how would we get them off? I'm sorry to ask so many question, but I'm quite new to this.

I have only used the powder Its better if 2 people do this I hold the bird and my Daughter will rub under there feather with the
food grad diatomaceous earth while there out of the coop and the pen I will dust the inside and out this take care of all the bugs.
I do this every few weeks depending on whats needed.
If there is a favorite dusting hole mix in some and they do it them self's.
I put some in there food as well every 2 months for two years now and haven't any insect problems.

You can also buy a pump applicator.
