I am sorry to post again another mite question!! I have a hen hatching eggs as we speak and she has mites!! The red ones

. I was shocked to see them today in the daylight. It has been so hot here 107, I have been checking her and the day her eggs are hatching I see them. I moved her and one chick out just for a few minutes to give her clean bedding and spray her box with poultry protector. I dusted her with poultry dust, I am so worried about her and the babies she is a white Silkie. I have ivermectin sheep drench 0.08%. I really want to give something that will work fast! I have been reading for hours trying to find a does for the ivermectin drench. I am so confused. Also is ivomac and ivermectin the same thing? I know I would give it to her in the mouth just not sure of the amount.

I can not stop itching myself! I feel so bad for her and I am so worried about the new babies. Also what do you treat baby chicks with? Just a little poultry dust?

Thank you

I'm going to give your thread a boost up here. I don't know what to tell you to do. I have dusted small chicks but not that young! Maybe someone with more experience will chime in soon.

Ivomec and Ivermectin are the same. However, I do not think an oral suspension is going to help with external parasites. Are you sure she has parasitic mites, and not just the red wood mites that run around everywhere? I don't know much about mites, so I am not much help there. I do know they make a topical version of ivomec. It would be effective on external parasites, but I do not know if it is safe for poultry skin. If you have already used poultry dust, I would take a wait and see approach. itty bitties are super susceptible to chemicals.

They are red bugs running everywhere!!!!!!!!!!! My poor hen I feel like the worst chicken Mother ever! I do not know where they came from? I have been giving her water melon daily poor girl sitting in this awful heat! I would think I would have seen them before!? What are red wood mites? How the heck do you get rid of them Poultry dust?

Ivomec pour on is used for mites. But I don't know what to do for such young chicks. I am stressed for you.

wood mites are not parasitic. You wouldn't have to worry about them. Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will come along and be of more assistance than I am capable of being! Hopefully, the poultry dust you already put down is sufficient :)

I do not see them on any other of my hens. My broody is in her own little house not by my other birds. I am cleaning everything in the morning going a little bit crazy!

I've been using wood ashes to dust my older hen with mites and it seems to be working well. I've found that when a hen spends much time on bedding (like a broody hen/sick hen), they are the perfect target for mites/lice. I put lots of the wood ash in the bedding now too. Good luck to you.
