Good morning. I have a mixed flock of ducks (Mallards, Rouens, Swedish, Khaki). I have three mallard looking eggs in my incubator (mom wouldn’t lay and all other eggs had frozen and cracked). Day 28 was this past Thursday. Eggs pipped on Friday around noon. Temp is 98.5 and humidity it around 65%. I can see movement but only chirping in one. Getting a bit nervous that we are approaching 48 hours. These were wild mallard eggs I believe. Crack on the one egg is on the wrong side and not the air pocket side but when I candled all three I can see the beak in the air pocket.

Those eggs look really dry, the ducklings are definitely shrink wrapped. Sorry you had no replies. You need to help them out. If you see blood stop, but they definitely all will need help. Your hygrometer must be off. Mist the eggs with some warm water and put a wet sponge in there

Thank you so much! I will go try and get them out now. Should I get a separate hygrometer to keep in there then?

I tried the one and barely touched it and got blood! I immediately stopped. Put a warm wet paper towel on the eggs. For a minute.

One egg successfully hatched. Misted the other two and left a wet paper towel in there. Bleeding stopped in the one I tried to help. Still breathing in that one. Should I just wait now? And for hot long?

Wait for a few hours on the bleeding one. I'm guessing it will still need help, but later on. Get a separate hygrometer to put in there, maybe it will work better. Try to help all of the eggs that have pipped until you are able to get them out or you get blood. You can use a dab of cornstarch on a wet q-tip to apply on the bleeding area to get the bleeding to stop. Do you have any unpipped ones? If so, you probably should make a safety hole. Have you read Sally Sunshine's article on Assisted Hatching?

Hooray! Grats on your duckie. Ducks are frustrating to hatch. They take for ever after pipping. I had a muscovy that took well over about 53 hours to hatch after pipping. I am waiting for my ducklings to hatch myself. Have 5 Rouen eggs in the incubator. They all have pipped one over a day and nothing more. Now we play the waiting game. I have assisted a duckling before that had a membrane not bleeding but was still not ready (unabsorbed yolk) I would give the little guy a couple more hours, see if he can make it out on his own. Keep us posted.

Thank you all for your responses! My one little duck is feisty. I read an article here about putting coconut oil on the membrane which I have now done. My hubby went out to get a separate hygrometer. Egg that was bleeding is still breathing. I am going to check on them again in 2 hours. It is so hard to leave them alone though because I feel like i need to constantly watch them!

Not sure if anyone is out there. It is now 9:30 and ducklings are still breathing but no trying to get out of shell at all. Air pocket end is broken open completely on both and humidity is 72% and temp is 98.5. I put a bit of coconut oil on internal membrane and warm wet paper towel on eggs to keep the membrane from drying out. I’m not sure what to do now.
