Thank you for the reply. I only had the incubator at 98.5 for hatching as that is what I read was best for hatching. I was at 100 for the 25 days of incubation prior to hatching. Sadly, one duckling didn't make it, which I was afraid of as it was completely messed up inside the egg from when I tried to assist. The smallest egg, I hatched this morning and it is so so tiny but doing really well. I am sad at the loss of the one, but thankful I had two successful. Hatching one is definitely not what I wanted to do, but she was head at the small part of the egg and her leg was up over her head and there was no way she could have gotten out on her own. She is chirping and drying and seems to be ok right now. The first duckling is spunky...and that is his/her name.Have you had the temp at 98.5 the whole incubation time? That is a bit cool and could account for the late hatch. I keep mine at 99.7 to 100. I dont trust just one thermometer, I keep two in my incubators. Any thing from your other eggs? When it comes to helping I have never had luck helping out ducklings. I assisted a chick in need once that was shrink wrapped. I knew something was wrong because she was rocking the egg like crazy and not getting any where. She was just stuck inside. With the ducklings taking so long to hatch its easy to get worried. Truth is I have assisted 3 ducklings and with all 3 the only problem was they needed more time to finish growing. The peeping and the scratching the shell is a good sign. It breaking through the membrane is also good news. Just give them time I hope you will wake up to more duckie cuteness.
