I am getting ready to order some silkies from a hatchery. Will the flock mingle together if I got different colors, or will they separate into flocks of the same color? Sorry to ask such a stupid question, but inquiring minds want to know.
I guess a better question would be will the darker colors tend to pick on the lighter colored birds. My sex links, which are on their way out, attacked my white silkies for the feathers. When I separated the two flocks the white silkies did not peck at each others wounds, which were pretty bloody and bad. This was unlike my flock of sex link hens. This has made me wonder- if I mixed in the different colors would one gang up on the other. Even though I can't picture silkies ganging up on anything, I just don't want to make a mistake at this. If I need to stick with just the whites I will. Thanks for any input on this.
