I ordered a random mix of eggs from a pure breed seller who had put some of her birds in one pen, there is a large mix of breeds and she gave me a wide variety of colored eggs, White, Blue, Dark Olive, and Dark Brown.
As the chicks are growing (they are nearly 3 weeks old) I am getting some weird and wonderful-looking birds.
The one that perplexes me most is a small light beige/cream/orange colored chick that seems to be developing a tuft on its head, salmon-colored wings/shoulders, and perhaps the strangest part, a V Comb. It's losing its pattern now, but it did have darker orange stripes down its back.
Here it is a few days old from above:
Here's it's v comb coming in at nearly 3 weeks old (ignore its cleft right eye - it's slowly getting better!):
A full body picture (nearly 3 weeks):
She didn't list it in the eggs she said she sold me, but she does have 'chamois spangled appenzeller spitzhauben' as a breed she sells on sight... I'm wondering if this is a mix from one of those. You lot are great with understanding breeds, think this could be a mix from this? The only other crested v-comb bird she did list was a Houdan... Not sure if it could be part Houdan instead, the coloring throws me.
Any ideas what this could be?
Here is the list she gave me. Salmon Faverolles, White Leghorn, Lavender Leghorn, Houdan, Castellana, Buff Sussex, Speckled Sussex, Ayam Cemani, Dorking, Arucuana, Creme Legbar, Andalusian and Hybrid Olive Egger. But she does breed the Chamois spangled appenzeller too, but just didn't list it.
Also, do the pullets get a comb this shape or am I looking at a Roo? It's not got any red yet, so assuming it's like all the other chickens and I need to wait a good few weeks yet before just guessing
