I would like to have guineas (about 10) and marans (about 4-6). I am trying to decide if
a. I get both guineas and chicken babies at the same time and raise them together (to improve the chance they'll get along no late-comers to get picked on)
b. I get chickens first (hens) and wait until they start laying, then get guinea eggs for the hens to care for (to bond guineas to momma hens)
c. I only get guineas OR I only get chickens (since this is my first time ever having any type of bird)
d. I get guineas first, THEN get the chickens (worried about guinea aggression on this one, when introducing new peeps to the herd)
my setup:
we own 30 acres in upstate NY
I hope to have everyone freeranging when they are old enough
they will have access to a large barn AND a coop with nest boxes and places to roost especially during the winter snow
everyone is protected by Athena, our great pyreneese LGD
did I say I'm new to birds?
anyone with suggestions, first hand experience, words of advice or anything else, please help!
