I have 8 chickens that are 2 years old, I started out with 12 however because of a predator problem 4 were lost. My family would like to get some more chickens. I was thinking if I put the baby chickens in a cage and then place the cage in the chicken coop maybe the older chickens will get used to them. Then when they get bigger I will put them in the coop with out the cage. That is just an idea I really have no clue. Please Help! Any suggestions?

I did that myself. But to no avail. When one of the new chicks (9 weeks compared to 12 weeks) jumped out of the cage into the open run the other chickens chased him and pecked him so he bled in three places. I finally caught him and brought him inside until he heals as the others will keep pecking him as long as they see blood. I'm not saying it won't work, just not in my case. Good luck.
