Hello,

I have a question:

Would it be ok to mix day old chicks from different hatcheries? Like mixing some from Ideal with some from McMurray? The chicks will be within a day or two of the same age, but I was concerned with diseases and such. Anyone ever done this?

Thanks a lot.

As long as they are within a few days of each other I don't see where you would have a problem. It is my preference to get all my chicks from the same place though this way if something does go wrong you know exactly where it came from. More than likely all will be fine.

I have never done that but I have timed hatches with the arrival of chicks and put them together and had no problems.

I put chicks together that were within a week of each other so it should work.

I would go by size. as long as everyone is close in size it will be fine. A larger chick could accidentally smush a smaller chick.

I mixed chicks from multiple hatcheries last year with not problems. I am not even sure where all of them came from. Two of the three feed stores I bought them from would not tell me where they came from. All that they would say is that they come from multiple hatcheries. I will be mixing some from a local breeder and some from a couple of feedstores again this year.

Of course! If they are only a day old they will be fine and probably happy for the extra company:D
As long as they are close to the same age they should be the best of friend:thumbsup
