I personally toss a few handfuls of scratch either on the ground or in the coop to keep chickens busy looking for stuff. Mixing it with three ration will result in chickens billing feed out looking for the corn. Feeding some prevents boredom and gets them moving. If you feed a higher protein ration than feeding some scratch won't interfere with their minimum daily protein requirements of 16% or more a day.
