Excuse this mighty one I thought people came here for help with their problems. I guess now that I know that an invalid opinion is just as good as a valid one I can save some time. If you look at post #2 in this string I clearly labeled my opinion as such.

One thing brought out in this discussion is that plants provide protein. My question is: How can you find out how much protein different plants have?

Corn and soybeans are both plants but have a huge difference in protein content.

Grass - how much protein is in it? Different species and at different times of the year and growing conditions?

Or is it a matter of variety? Give the geese as much variety as possible so it will all balance out not only with the protein but other vital nutrients also?

I have found out that there are some weeds the geese really love. And some the ducks love. Even with the different grasses. I have seen the geese take a bite of a different grass and spit it back out. I have no idea what the nutrient content of the weeds are. When they free range on a pasture it is a plant buffet............

As far as geese go, I really don't think feed is all that important during spring - fall if you have plenty of lush grass or pasture. If they have access to assorted weeds, herbs and flowers all the better for a little variety but all they really need is grass.
After goslings are about 2 weeks old all they need is plenty of grass and fresh water and they will grow like weeds.
Of course geese need a supplemental feeds during the winter and breeding season or if you are conditioning for show....but geese thrive on grass.
