Mixing peeps of different sizes

I have two different varieties of peeps, GLW and SLW. The three silvers weigh approx 40-50 grams each. The six golds weigh about 130-140 grams apiece. Is this too much of a size difference to put them together or can they safely co-exist in the same brooder?

How old are they?

I'm not up on my grams, but in my experience, unless your brooder is too small, chicks within a 2 week age difference can happily coexist. Your Wayndottes should have similar temperaments so should be fairly happy together.

I have had trouble mixing in youngsters from more delicate breeds (Faverolles and Silkies) They didn't get picked on, they just didn't compete for food as well.

Try it, and if there if someone is getting picked on or looks weak, separate them again.

I've had them for 8 days. The Golds are getting their tail and shoulder feathers now, while there is still no evidence that the silvers have started tail/shoulder feather growth. Don't know if that helps to determine their age, but I just don't know when they hatched.

If I had to guess, I would say the older ones are between 2-3 weeks, and the younger ones were only a couple of days when you got them- I would say they are a week to 10 days apart. My SLW was almost fully feathered at 3 weeks. I would give it a try. It's easier to introduce them at this age than when they're older.

But do watch them to make sure all is harmonious. Individuals to vary!
