Mixing pellets and crumble

I should have said ducks can swallow pellets easier with less waste in my waterers. When I'm feeding a crumble to my chicks my muscovy seek it out, and half of it ends up on the bottom of my water buckets and pans. So I should have said I prefer the ducks to eat a pellet because it's less mess and waste. You're correct, my ducks didn't offer their opinions. :)

oh boy I know what you mean, my ducks leave crumble in the waterers and pool, in the waterers it turns into like a mud.

Ah, ok. Yeah, that is why I switched to pellets due to hearing of the less mess. The food sure makes their one water bowl smelly. Ugh. I change it everyday - sometimes twice -, not sure if pellets will help that? I didn't see the ducks "say" what they liked best as they just stick their heads in their feeder and chomp down. But, those chickens are much more vocal and scratch through to get their favorite feeds.;)

There's still smelly water buckets with muscovy, but on a pellet on don't see that sludge as much on the bottom. I dump my water buckets daily, and sometimes twice, but I always have multiple water buckets everywhere so the mess gets spread around a bit.

So you haven't asked your muscovy questions when they are doing their butt waggly head bobbing greeting to each other? I always get yes answers out of them. :) of course maybe yours aren't doing that yet, plus yours are probably all together mostly so they don't need to meet and greet. :p

Well, the questions I ask aren't direct - need to be more direct. Thanks for the advice! :gig

Good thread for this newbie! I have a 5 gal feeder and a 1 gallon. Today I put all flock pellets in the small feeder and am finishing up the crumble in the large feeder. I fully expect the crumbles to disappear first until the pellets are all that's available. I'm tired of the mess under the feeders and hope this will help. Thanks again to all!

I’ve been feeding starter crumbles, my first chicks are coming up on 8 weeks (heritage layers/breeders) and I wanted to switch their feed from the starter to a general grower ration, as they aren’t laying yet. But my feed store doesn’t usually carry it, and it’s a special order... they got in some 17% grower crumbles for me, and might be able to order in some pellets. I was looking to cut down on spillage/wasted food as I transition them onto pasture by switching to pellets...
