mixing rhode islands with "rare breeds"

I'm scheduled to receive 5 rhode island reds and 5 assorted "rare breeds" (polish and what not). A friend told me the polish tend to be skittish and the others might pluck at there head feathers. Anyone have any comments? I can change my order if need be but I was hoping to raise some interesting looking chickens for my kids to show at the fair.
