Mixing week-old with day-old chicks

<3<3 I <3 Chickens <3<3 :

LISTEN TO ME if you want them to become friends, here is an old farmers trick witch can be used for if you save a baby bird as well. OK here we go

1) get some Baking Soada
2) rub it on ALL of the birds
3) They will become one heard

THIS REALLY WORKS!!!!!!!!!!

How does this work? Is it that they don't like the taste when they peck so they stop? I have 2 three week chicks that will eventually have to be introduced to my 4, currently 8 week old, pullets. I was going to do it when they are about 5 or 6 weeks old, and if this "trick" works, I am all for it. I am spending a lot of time with my 2 little chicks, a black silkie and a mille fleur D'uccle, and I would HATE for my other 4 to hurt them.

I did the same thing earlier this spring and they all did fine. I had 5 chicks that my daughter gave me not knowing that I had ordered some already. They were a week and half old when my 3 day olds all 25 of them arrived in the mail. I was alittle worried but it worked out fine. 6 mos. later I still have 30 chicks of 5 different breeds all laying different shades of brown eggs. Hope all goes well for your bunch

I'd say it will have a lot to do with the size of your brooder setup. I run mixed ages together all the time in a large (8 foot diameter) brooder with an old floor hover brooder. They seem to all get along pretty well. I like to have temps available in the space to suit the youngest while the older ones have enough room to move around and find the temps suitable for them. Here's a pix of my setup from a couple of years back.
