MJ's little flock

40C isn't exactly cool is it.
We get a few days over 40C here most summers and I find them very difficult to cope with.
They were hot days, yes. But I'm accustomed to a week of above 40 two or three times in a summer. So a few scattered hot days is an easy summer.

This is one of the reasons our public libraries are so important. Homeless people can read all day in cool and use the toilet facilities. Much preferable for everyone than people passing away on the streets from the heat.

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. :thWhen it starts getting that hot round here the humidity is generally through the roof. That's what I really, really hate; humidity. 🥵
Adelaide almost never has humidity. Or snow. It's a very dry heat but the temps usually go quite high.

From what I've read the surgical approach often isn't that successful.
There's no way I'd cut a live chicken open. For me, it's a job for someone with anaesthetic, the right tools, the right knowledge and training, and preferably lots and lots of experience. An older but diligent vet is perfect.

So if ever a hen gets a bumble, she'll be packed off to Dr Mark quick smart.

If I had Dr Mark, I would never treat anything myself. Just saying.

Oh, speaking of Dr Mark, I got champion layer last weekend and Snow and Belle are demolishing what I put out (unfortunately so do the sparrows and starlings 😭) so thanks for the advice ☺️

:barnieis how I handle wildbirds.

They usually ignore me but sometimes a young'un will fly off.

I send Violet out to do the same 😂
They sit on the top of her trampoline and poop all over it, so then she won’t use it :barnie
I’m going to have to do something 🤔
Anyone have any ideas? I’ve seen holographic tape and those fake owls but I can’t imagine any of it working...

Sometimes Mary will chase a pigeon.

But once the new run is finished (*sigh*) the birds won't be able to get near the hen's food.
