Hi Mary Jane, just baked some pumpkin for chooks. Learnt that dried pumpkin seeds in the sun only and crushed up when dry put in chook food is a good natural worm preventative. Do you know if this is true don’t think it would hurt.

I've never used pumpkin seeds as a treatment for worms. I use something called Kilverm which has levamisole in it to really knock the worms out while keeping the chooks and people safe.

There are some treatments that are even better than Kilverm. I think @Ribh @LozzyR @Aussie-Chookmum or @Scrambles83 will know of some good ones in Australia.

Featherfoot the silkie rooster named because of the aboriginal name of the gidarchi medicine man, he also has feather feet. Amber the cream silkie was adopted, and named because of her colour. And little Damsel, is what my grandmother used to call me many years ago. As now in my 70s.

Speaking of, do you do this in water @MaryJanet? Or in bread? I think a friend of mine from Brisbane said she does it in tuna but it might have been something else she was using at the time.

Water, but I do it two days straight, fortnight rest, another two days straight. That way any worm eggs that were in the chicken for the first dose (and therefore escape the treatment) have hatched and will be wiped out by the second dose.

I like the idea of using food to give medication but somehow it seems easier (or just as easy) to use water for Kilverm because the hens are ok with the flavour. They seem to tuck in.
