I'm so excited for Ivy and you. It is simply an amazing experience.Good morning! It's a clear morning but chilly in Adelaide. I've got a busy Monday ahead, but at least I took a full weekend, which was very restorative.
The hens are cheerful and happy. There are still 4 or 5 days of probiotics for them to get through and then they'll be back to their usual diet. Mary's poops are not wet any more, so that's good, but they are rather dark green. Actuall, come to think of it, all the poops are dark green right now. I guess that's from the probiotics.
I found an Australian breeder of Appenzeller Spitzhaubens who sells and ships fertile eggs. So IF I can provide a safe space (that's a big if), next time Ivy goes broody, she can have some eggs to hatch. I think it will be easier to find homes for the cockerels of a rare breed. If not, they'll be put to sleep by Mark the vet. At least they'll have had a happy life up to that point.
It will be Summer when she sits again, hopefully the hens will be sleeping in the funrun by then and the brood can be in the foxproof coop. If not, she'll have to wait.I'm so excited for Ivy and you. It is simply an amazing experience.![]()
You will love it. There is nothing like it and she will make a wonderful mother. It will be Summer when she sits again, hopefully the hens will be sleeping in the funrun by then and the brood can be in the foxproof coop. If not, she'll have to wait.
