Thank you for the explanation. I didn't know or remember about that surgical flush. That would also convince me not to try it myself. The first one is that a couple of years ago she had a swelling in her face that had to be surgically flushed and the swelling may have damaged some of the delicate nasal bones in her face. I would not attempt anything that vibrates Janet's beak. I prefer the vet does it and, even then, under anaesthesia so she doesn't move during the procedure. I think she stopped shaping her own beak when she was so sick over winter and now it's not something she can re-shape herself. If it were another hen, sure, I'd give it a try!
The second reason is her stress. Like you, I'm worried it'll be highly stressful and maybe even painful. She's never had anything done to her beak that she hasn't done herself, so it would be a very new and scary situation for her.
I also love the picture. It looks like you pulled out the flowery carpet for her. Thinking movie star going up the stair walk at the Cannes festival

I watched Blanche carefully yesterday and while she doesn't eat a lot, when she eats she really does. I won't attempt anything until it seems to hinder her from eating.

What happened? Did she give up of her own accord?
She did, I didn’t have to put her in broody jail. What happened? Did she give up of her own accord?
At my place, putting broodies on the roost really helps to encourage the transition out of broodiness. She did, I didn’t have to put her in broody jail.We put her on the roost each night after getting her out of her broody trance. We also kicked her off the nest every so often. I also locked her out of the henhouse the other day, thinking Snowy didn’t need to lay. Of course she did, and crossed her legs rather than just laying anywhere!

I love this photo. It's like she is on the edge of a big decision. Will she take that step forward or not?
