MKK Farms. Updates, pics, and stories!

That's understandable.
Right now I am hoping that the 1st egg will come sometime in August, but I'm thinking early Sept will be more accurate. I'm guessing my Ancona will be the first to lay

heres a pic of her at about 15 weeks

Looks like a good guess based on comparing her to the girl behind her.
I just "got" your name. I'd been reading it as New York Dottes.

I get it now Y N Dottes.

Mine were simple. Last year's chicks were bought at TSC and they're sex-links and white Leghorns. They were laying before I knew it.
This year's are not so simple. They're a January hatch from those girls, so there's no way to know when they'll start laying.

I have Bantams about to start laying. They are fully feathered, just a couple more weeks I think.

I have like two hens laying right now. lol

My Cochin Bantams should start laying in Sept/Oct. (Bought them as day-olds in April)
Two laying isn't bad. How many eggs a week is that? Is it enough you don't have to buy eggs?

No its not enough. Maybe two - four eggs a week.

They're each only laying you one or two eggs a week???
Are they young and just started laying or old and about to stop?
My pullet just laid her second egg today. =D I even got to hear her sing the egg song this time. It's so much higher pitched than the older hens, and her roo started singing with her, just like my sr. roo does.

I'm beginning to think I'm weird for getting so excited and feeling so happy about these things!

They are pretty old. Remember the complete restocking of birds I did a while back? Well I have a trio still left from that and those are the ones. They are about three or four years old I think.

You are not weird, I mean, you are but not to me because I am also weird. ;)

Oh. Yeah, I remember. Okay.

Yeah, as long as I have someone to be weird with....

nah, I'd be excited too.
wow, 2 eggs in a day. I think that only happened to me once. a RIR 2 yrs ago

Oh, good. You me and Mitch will all be weird together.

I'm cool with that! =D
I've had chickens since last March. One of my white Leghorn hens laid twice on the same day once this spring.

one hen ...equals one egg a day..is the usual rule...more than an egg a day is unusual ..

so two laying means two eggs a day - 14 eggs a week..etc..

does my math sound right? I do not know about Banties..my hens are full sized RIR, Dominiquer, & some mixes of various types. I get some lovely dark brown eggs!!

Right. I suppose if every hen laid twice a day I would only have to keep half as many chickens. But since I like having as much as I can maybe its good they only lay once a day
