Hey, your death toll is lower than mine was.
So sad, isn't it?
Sorry about your losses as well. In a twisted way, I was relieved to find out that this isn't uncommon for McMurray. We've had chicks several times and NEVER had this happen. I was feeling so terrible, that we might have done something. Thankfully the 20 survivors look very hearty and I am hopeful the losses are done.
I ordered from McMurray last year, shipped to Alaska. Lost one in transit, one on the 3rd day and the rest survived. (40 ordered)
So, they don't seem to have a problem from my view. Every hatchery will have poor runs at some time. My main problem was the sexing and the free exotic was a polish roo.
I recieved my 36 chicks today from McMurray, all arrived healthy and they gave us 2 extra. Also our free exotic chick was a white silkie!
Recieved 39 chicks total.

Haha i have the same problem! Dh teases me for sitting out in the coop with the catalog pondering! I got the ornamental pullet assortment this year. Most of them are gold and black, i got an egyptain fayoumi, glp, mottled houdan, definitly 1 ee, possibly more, alot more, like all the stupid gold and black ones. I m not ordering from them again though. 11 arrived dying, i saved 2!!! Last year 4 arrived dead, lost 2 to preds and the rest were Roosters!!! It was the top hat special so i figured Some would be roos, but goodness!
Last year my free one was a cuckoo marans roo, this year a slw roo.
I ordered 30 broilers, got 32 and my rare was a silver sebright. And then I ordered 7 dark brahmas, 11 barred rocks, 11buff orpingtons, and 5th partridge cochins, I can't figure out what my extra was but im assuming it was a dark brahma or I'm gunna be surprised cause it looks just like the other ones lol.
I've been fortunate I guess i've never gotten a dead chick from them i've been ordering from them for 10years I always get 30 broilers and i always get extras and only twice have the missexed something.
I ordered 26 chicks (large, brown eggers) and received an extra New Hampshire that I believe is a roo and an EE that looks like a roo as well, but it is too early to tell for sure. All arrived healthy on 03/14 and are growing like crazy.
We ordered 28 assorted chicks -- Orpingtons, Wyandottes, Cochins, and Silkies. We got 30. Our two extra were a White Crested Black Polish (gender unknown) and a Columbian Wyandotte roo. Like a previous poster, McMurray shipped on a Friday and the chicks arrived Monday; we were expecting the chicks to ship on Monday. They sat in the post office all weekend, but despite all this only two (two Silkies) didn't make it. We weren't too happy about the shipping confusion, but the quality of the chicks (all 28 remaining are thriving) and the professional quality of Customer Service (other than the shipping thing) will keep us as customers.
well, now I am nervous! I am expecting my shippment of Delawares and Buff Rocks (and "rare exotic") the week of April 25th. this is the first time I have ordered chicks in the mail.
