Correct, you just browse the site with your mobile web browser and the mobile version comes up. No download or app needed!

And if it doesn't come up automatically, scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll see two big buttons, one to select "mobile", the other to select "desktop".

I love the new mobile version BUT I wish there was an app so I wouldn't have to search for it using Google on my Iphone. I would Love to have an app on my 1st page & just click on it and I am there!

I have a droid, so I can bookmark the site and then put it on my home page, it even has Trudy as the button(isnt that the logo chickens name?). Is there a way to do that on the iphone?

Good point. The Learning Center, Coops, Breeds and Reviews links from the top menu bar of the HTML site don't seem accessible in the mobile site.
If you click the middle of the title bar, where it has the words "Back Yard Chickens" you do get to a home page, and a few of the most recent articles appear there, but I don't see a navigation menu option for anything but forums, subscriptions, private messages, sponsors, my profile and where I've posted.

(I'm on android 4.0)
