Nellabean inspired me to get this pictures today.

I discovered the nest yesterday and it had four little eggs in it. This is what I found today.

When I moved the branch to get a better picture they all woke up-

Mama and daddy showed up once I left the nest alone. Clearly there are hungry mouths to feed!

I'm guessing mockingbirds? Dunno. I'm not that up on my bird identification. The tiny ones are pretty darn cute though!

Clearly the mockingbirds you have there in Tenn. are a bit more sedate than ours. If I go within 50 ft. of a mockingbird nest the mama and daddy come at me and they are out for blood.

The mockingbirds that live in my yard attack my (now deceased) cat. One day I caught 2 of them tag teaming the poor old girl. They better leave my chickens alone or they might be rehomed. Darn birds make too much noise anyway. Makes it hard to keep an ear on my chicks.

Well, apparently these two aren't the sharpest crayons in the box. That little pine tree is the cats' favorite place to lounge. Sigh. I see the tiny babies becoming kitty toys.

I have a Mockingbird that made a nest in a tree near my turkey pen. She is driving my turkey hen crazy!!!! My hen just hatched out her brood of chicks, the mockingbird has the peep of the chicks down pat. Momma keeps looking around and calling for the chick...lol.

The silly bird fooled me too, I was looking around for the chick and then I realized it was coming from up in the tree.

Yeah, the lot around here has figured out how to mimic my dog whining. I kept yelling at the dog to knock it off. Poor puppy! No wonder she was so confused. It was the birds the whole time!

Oh I just love mockingbirds. They can copy just about any sound. We have one that even sounds like a car alarm. What is really neat is to watch them hunt for bugs. They dance!!. Wings up, step forward, dip, wings up, wings down, step back, dip. This goes on and on until they find what they are looking for.
