modding a dog house for ventilation - help?

Most larger hole saws take a 1/2 inch chuck. 3/8th chucks are the most common even on consumer grade drills.

Yes they make huge hole saws, I have a 6 inch one but you are looking at at least $40 for just the saw that will make more than 1 hole. Add another $20 for the arbor the saw fits. If you have a jig saw there is often a lip around drop in vents that will cover uneven cuts.

i measured mine today! around 5x4 and about 4/5 feet high (i’m not good with a measuring tape or
anything carpentry related). a lot bigger than i expected, it’s in rough shape but i think i can work with it? a good base i think- it’s nothing fancy, has a window on the two sides but one is broken and would need to be taken out

There would be no need to cut or drill holes constructing the door as a solid frame covered with hardware cloth.

Situating the hinges on the bottom it will work double duty as self-cleaning ladder for easier access.

My husband used round screened sofit vents. Put in with a hole saw. Place where you want. Save the wood from the hole. You can pop them in a couple of them if really cold weather.

I scored a very sturdy 2x3 wooden doghouse off craigslist for $15. Once I get a door on it will most definitely be predator proof.
I’ll also be adding shingles too as I ripped the old ones off.

My current dilemma is... how do I modify it to introduce an appropriate amount of ventilation?

All other tips and suggestions on mods are welcome!
I usually house my smaller flocks and ducks in large dog houses and I usually cut small triangular windows at the front or back and add mesh wiring to make a door. In the winter I use thick planks of wood to insulate and hold up the door.

blocking up the door for winter is a great idea, I could just leave a gap for ventilation...
I haven't gotten started yet, because.... procrastination

Pallets and plywood would also be really good for expansion, and maybe a porch if your interested in more cosmetic changes to the coop. I also reccend large dollhouses for small birds. I have two teenaged dark Campbell ducks who live in a large dollhouse barn, when I originally thought it was a dog house.
