Yes, about 2" openings, if possible, would work fine. That part supports the roof piecescould i perhaps drill holes there instead?
I usually house my smaller flocks and ducks in large dog houses and I usually cut small triangular windows at the front or back and add mesh wiring to make a door. In the winter I use thick planks of wood to insulate and hold up the door.I scored a very sturdy 2x3 wooden doghouse off craigslist for $15. Once I get a door on it will most definitely be predator proof.
I’ll also be adding shingles too as I ripped the old ones off.
My current dilemma is... how do I modify it to introduce an appropriate amount of ventilation?
All other tips and suggestions on mods are welcome!
blocking up the door for winter is a great idea, I could just leave a gap for ventilation...I usually house my smaller flocks and ducks in large dog houses and I usually cut small triangular windows at the front or back and add mesh wiring to make a door. Pallets and plywood would also be really good for expansion, and maybe a porch if your interested in more cosmetic changes to the coop. I also reccend large dollhouses for small birds. I have two teenaged dark Campbell ducks who live in a large dollhouse barn, when I originally thought it was a dog house.blocking up the door for winter is a great idea, I could just leave a gap for ventilation...
I haven't gotten started yet, because.... procrastination![]()
