Moderator help please.

At this point of harrassment, wouldn't a moderator step in and send the offender a warning?

I would think a block is used for blocking people that say things or have opinions that you can't stand. Reporting or contacting a mod is for when you are being harassed. I'm suprised people harass others-they are far to easy to catch!

Blocking a member is a very effective way to deal with receiving unwanted PM's. This option is available to all members by hovering over the avatar of the member you want to block. Once you have blocked them, the option to "block member" will change to "unblock member." Keep in mind there may be some delay in the block taking effect. Once you have blocked them, you will also be unable to see their posts.

If you do not wish to block them, you can also simply delete their PM without reading it. Unless you receive a PM from a staff member, we do not expect you to open any PM, much less respond, if you do not want to. Ignoring someone is usually a pretty good way to get them to leave you alone.

Since you are always free to block or delete unwanted PM's, and because they are private, we do not ordinarily interfere with the content of PM's. An exception would be a spammer who is spamming via PM.

I'm with FlockWatcher on this one. I've known people who complain about spam email and junk snail mail. They don't bother me. I just put them into the trash without opening.

Just to mention, what I wrote above is something that has been discussed in staff -- not just my personal opinion. I was speaking as a mod, not as a member.

I did want to say that after his last PM, I responded and told him that I was going to report him for harassment if he PM'd me again. I have not heard from him since. I have him blocked, not sure if that is why I haven't gotten anymore PMs from him or not.

Just to clarify, this wasn't "junk" or "spam" mail (which I never read in my e-mail account). This was a person who disagreed with my point of view and he wanted to let me know how wrong I was and that I was "a nut." He was really nasty and rude, being extremely obnoxious and sarcastic. Hopefully, I won't hear anything more from him.
