They have arrived! I am in love with them. They are the friendliest chickens I have ever owned and I have had chickens a long time. I'm not sure the color of the roo. There are two hens that look blue, a black, and one hen that is blue with some lighter yellowy feathering on her neck, more like the roo. I don't know their ages but they seem pretty young. My husband is going to dub him this weekend.

Congrats!! They are beautiful! They do look like clues and a black, but the black might have a little lacing in her neck (can’t really tell) if so then she is a blue of some sort. The Roo LOOKS like a blue, then there’s that yellow neck and a bit in the wing...It’s hard to say exactly what he is, but he could be a blue, a silver blue, or a mixture ofs these. Either way, he’s pretty! I’ll send some coloration guidelines from the book later. If you have any questions about anything, at all feel free to ask! I love talking about Moderns, no matter the topic~

@DelaneyMGB25 Thanks! I've got a show tomorrow I am taking ducks and d'Uccles to I am going to pay close attention to the moderns there. Their faces are very light? Aren't they usually darker? Moderns get dubbed very close don't they? I know with old English you leave about 1/4 inch. My husband has done American gamefowl in the past, are they a similar cut?

For combs and earlobes, yes they are cut close on Roos. Their faces are pretty pale, but that could be of various reasons. It could be as easy as the way the birds are, or it could be lighter due to what they’ve been eating, where they sleep, how healthy they are, etc.
Here’s a pic of my roosters dub for reference. Ones not AS clean as it could be, as he’s not a show bird, but it’s still close! The other is a better dub~

Kinda. It’s close to standard, but done sloppily. It’s a little lumpy, and a little tall but it looks different becuase the base of his comb was thicker.

Also, looking the closer, the hen with the yellow band seems to have a darker comb, so here Face may be naturally dark. She looks really nicely built too! Also, enjoy your show tomorrow, and good luck! Show days are always so exciting!

Thanks. My guy seems to have a thickish comb. Supposedly some in the group had been shown before. They were from a tested flock. Looking forward to tomorrows show. Is it best to dub with scissors? According to the little research I have done scissors are most common. My husband said he always used a razor blade though. How long does it take to heal on average? Sorry I am questioning you to death lol

Your fine! Like I said, I LOVE questions! They give me something to do! I use scissors. Most people do use regulaur kitchen scissors, they work better than paper scissors. I personally use large sewing type scissors. They are literally identical to sewing scissor, just larger, and curved to cut the comb more even. They are in most first aid kits.
