Flip frowned. "All stallions in the herd can see the mares and the foals, as long as they don't make trouble."

Quote:
Flip made an ugly face and swore under his breath. "The stallions are explained by what I said earlier: I am not strong enough as of yet to drive the troublemakers out. I allow the respectful ones to stay - I see no reason why they should not. They only make me stronger, and there is surely enough grass to go around. The mares are explained by those wretched stallions that arrived earlier. They're huge and human-bred. They know how to fight, and they're merciless."

"Make you stronger, I see.... " he replied, laying his ears back, "How long till you are stronger, what gauge are you using? Till you have more of these 'respectful' ones? What happens when you finally do and they see you as but another in their way? I am not saying get rid of them, but how long would you hold respect for a leader who isn't strong enough? Respect isn't carved in stone, it's made, you make them respect you or it crumbles away to spurn"

Flip narrowed his eyes. "What am I supposed to do, fight them? I like to keep the good ones healthy and happy, thank you very much." Flip trotted away to the Clover Patch to think, leaving Angelus behind. He looked around for Jet.

Angelus flickered his ears and snorted, "but a frightened colt"

Ivy walked to Angelus. "He's good soul inside," she whispered to him. "He's got a leader's spirit, but the poor thing hasn't got the body for it. He does the best he can with what he's got, and I'm proud of him for that."

Skittles emerged from the forest with her mane matted and dirty and beside her walking on wobbly, three foals.
All three were white as the first snow, but only two had their mother's black patterns and splotches. The smallest, the pure white filly, had ice blue eyes. She looked fragile, her little pink nose pointed up in the air as she squinted to see her mother.
The two colts followed just behind, one leaning his head sleepily on his brother, both with their mother's dark brown eyes.
