mold in waterers

I have chicks and have small black mold spots in my ACV waterer. I put 1 teaspoon of ACV per gallon of water, and in the base and jug part of the waterer there is mold. I am afraid to give the chicks water in it, but i can't deny them water either. Please help!!

I was told one tablespoon of ACV per gallon. 🤷🏼‍♀️

One teaspoon of acidified copper sulfate per 5 gal keeps algae growth down and is good for fowl.I used it for decades.I also put 50 lbs of whole oats in a 55 gal barrel pour in a quart of apple cider vinegar.strained oats daily enough for 1/4 of total feed.I would use them up.in a couple weeks.I had a good amount of fowl.fed 4 5 gal buckets of feed each day.smaller flock I suggest mixing fewer .Afther about 12 days them oats have a smell you never forget.Never the less the fowl loved them and they are good for your fowl.Especially in warmer weather.cheers

Gosh this thread sounds like a bunch of guessing this and guessing that. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
I’m not convinced anyone has any real science behind these recommendations.

I use white food-grade buckets with vertical nipples. The white cuts down on the algae and mold. I also use ACV. When I change the water, I scrub it out with a toilet scrubber (never used for toilets - lol). Bleach works, too. Just a lil bit.

The truth as long as you give fresh water everyday I seen it pose no threat.I knew a old timer had just as healthy fowl as anyone. His water jugs were green with algae.Rekon long as no insect larve in it won't hurt them .Just based on what I have witness.cheers

That's it you hit the nail on the head.I promise you if you rinse out waterer and give fresh water daily you be fine.Just like people's automobile some wash and wax regularly. Some almost never wash them.Like I said .I used to go help a old man that loved his fowl and never departed with them until he died.He got so he could barely walk.I went over and done all I could do for him.All his water jugs were stained green with algae growth.I was going to clean all them with bleach. He told me nevermind that . They always been like that and his fowl were healthy as anyone's.Cheers

Well, I guess that explains it. My 2004 Ford truck has never been washed, much less waxed. I never scrub the water founts and do not refill them unless they are empty.
