Mold Nearly killed me - be careful with mold - SORRY LONG

Thanks for that post. I sometimes want to be lazy, take a short-cut, or whatever and get tempted to not empty the humidifyer right away after use.
I am very sensitive to molds, fungi, dust and who knows what.
I live in a house where I never feel well. (I know it's the house, because before I moved in with my boyfriend, I would go home to my house feeling totaly exhausted, and after taking care of the chickens, the fish, the dog and the cat, so I could go to bed, I felt fine, and swept and sang and danced and ... and would stay up late! (How's that for a run on sentence)
I'll never again be tempted to not empty that humidifyer!!!!
To Southern28Chick, Like the saying goes: No cloud without a silver lining! There is something good about that humidity. 'Though you couldn't have convinced me of that when I lived in New York City.

That sounds like a nightmare. I'm glad things worked out with your mom knowing it was you, and your friend telling them what you'd done. Mold and those kinds of infections can be very serious.

I just wanted to add that orange oil can be helpful too.

After Hurricane Ivan, a lady who works with me ended up with mold in her home, and couldn't afford to have it professionally removed. It was making her very sick, unable to breathe at night, not sleeping, etc. The lady who owns the store suggested orange oil, and it worked very well. I know she applied it to the air filters, and used it to clean some affected surfaces. I'm not sure how else she used it. But it really did the trick, although it took about a week for her to start to improve as far as her breathing.

Just wanted to share that. Orange oil is fairly inexpensive as far as essential oils go, too.

Thieves' Oil is very good for killing infectious agents too, but it is MUCH more expensive than orange oil. (About 30x as much!)

Mel,
amazing how fast things can sneak up on you-

I did the same thing with Carbon Dioxide - I woke up and felt sick - I stood up and couldn't find my coffee maker - and of course it was on the kitchen counter just like always-
I had fell alseep on the couch my kids lucky had slept upstairs so 6 am they were up and getting ready for school and forced me to get up I was so sick it was the last thing I wanted to do - Luckily I left the house about ten minutes up and out I started to feel better - I went back to the house ten minutes in the living room I felt so ill again -- A friend stopped over and I started to talk and she said lets go she recognized the signs and systems of carbon dioxide poisoning - we called a furnace man who came over and a pipe had come loose- The living area was the focal point so having been in that area for over 24 hours I got it -
another few hours waiting for the kids to get home and I'd have most likely died --
No lasting damage in my case but in telling ya might help someone out ---
