Molt Scales?

Do chickens molt the scales on their legs?

Don't belive they do. Why are you asking? Is there a problem with the scales on some of your birds?

Is it okay if you can lift up the scales a tiny bit if you are touching their legs? I was just noticing how my hens scales are loose compared to her babies who have realy tight together scales.

I don't see little bugs on her and I put DE in the house.

I also checked one of the other hens and her scales are only loose on her lower legs.

I handle my birds and never noticed loose scales on their legs. I have adjusted their leg bands. I will look now.

I agree with INDIANA HENS you have leg mites! Coat the legs and feet with vaseline. Do this about every other day , for 2 weeks. Good luck!! Check all of the birds in the run, they are very contagious!
