The birds feathers are primarily made of protein so this time of year they can use the extra protein. Try it you may start getting more eggs because you would be supplementing their diet with higher protein feed which helps with the molting regardless if they are going through light or heavy molts. My egg production has increased. During the hot months I feed them layer but when I notice them molting I give them Game Bird Breeder pellets which is 20% protein. They do get oyster shells and granite grit because I also give them a scratch grain/seed mix as treats.
