Depends on the bird. Good layers molt hard and fast and lay soon after they start. Some take all winter off.

all my birds shut down for winter. I dont give extra light to them. My dad's keep laying thru the winter, but he does light his. But yes like aoxa says, it depends on the bird. some wont stop laying, they just slow up on laying, while other make you think they will never start again lol

Yep! My Delaware is like that. She molts SOOO slow. Took her all winter to start again

If they are in their pullet year (born in 2012) they will lay right through winter and won't molt (or shouldn't) - with or without light.
