Sounds great!

I think you'd better start one!

Chickie was whittling down his beautiful tail feathers in this pic. Today he has no tail feathers.

He has always has problems with his feather health. Im giving him vit B as I have learned a deficiency can result in poor feathering.

I have a few molting chicken questions, since ya'll have been through this.
Actually I have too but it almost went un-noticed with that flock.

My new flock has me puzzled. They will be 1 year old at the end of April.
I am seeing a lot of feathers laying around and figured almost a year - it's probably time for them to molt.

My favorite Australorp, Violet, has a completely bare breast and abdomen. I can see some broken feathers but no new ones growing in.
Questions:
1. Do they pick at the old feathers when it's time for them to come out? If so, do they break them off sometimes?

2. How long are they bald before the new feathers start to grow in?

3. Is it typical for them to loose weight during this time? Like you can so feel their keel bone, yes?

4. They stop laying, yes? Because she is still laying everyday.

5. I am seeing other colored feathers laying about from other chickens but no one looks like Violet and they basically look normal.

So I just need to know what is typical and normal during the annual molt.
Thanks in advance for your help
