Molting in November?

Is it normal for a hen to molt in November? How can I make sure she survives the cold? Help!
 
When they stop laying they have don't have to expend energy making eggs so they have all that extra reserve to keep warm with.
 
silkie chicken....why are the 4month old barred rock molting, but the one that are 7 months old have never molted? DJ

Their diet is the same?

Every bird is a bit different in when and how they moult. My flock molts between like sept and march, but not a single bird take from sept to march to moult. Usually 4-6 weeks per bird somewhere in that time frame. And the ones that moult are either a few feathers here and there, while a few that are, POOF, feathers on the ground with a walking naked pin cushion.
