Name (if possible): Tootie
Age (if possible): 2 1/2 years
Fun Facts or Story: As you see she really needs a saddle! She's lost all her back feathers and neck feathers while molting. I had to spray her back with Blu-Kote & rub on Black Salve so the other hens wouldn't pick her back. She's a really character, and really beautiful when fully feathered!

Keep them coming! Fall is on it's way, and the feathers are flying! Egg production is dropping off, and the girls are looking scruffy! We want to give them some sympathy! Where better to share the love than on BYC? And I'm giving away a lovely chicken saddle, two chicken fabric potholders, and something else I dream up for third prize!
Enjoy, your pics are wonderful so far!

I have heard that not all birds molt or they do it so discretely we dont notice, like some dogs shed more than others! Your roo is probably too embarassed to have anyone see him without his feathers on!

Ok, here goes...

Jojo is 1yr 4mo old Blue Ameraucana hen.
Poor girl has been feeling bashful each time
she hears or sees the camera!
Oh and heavens sake, especially visitors!
I did notice when I looked down her few tail poofs,
it looked like a pencil holder!
I said it not thinking and she walked into the coop!
Here's our Jojo!!!

Sadly she has no beautiful Muff ,
receeding on her head too.

She was trying to hide in the corner from me-
in the shadows. But as we all know,
when Momma wants a photo...she gets it!

She eats on a summer squash, swiss chard
stems and the red container, gets tossed in protest
of being empty. It is what the yogurt, oatmeal
and grapes come in. When they are done, the dish
goes everywhere until I pick it up and rinse it out!

After seeing your other girls and boys, I told JoJo
not to fear, she would be warmer and prettier
then any other of the girls this winter.
This seems to have lifted her spirits!

Thank you!

Poor JoJo! She does look like she needs a jacket! She must be absolutely beautiful when not in moult? Not that she's not still pretty, and you can tell her I said so!
Thanks for participating!

Tootie! That is the cutest name! She doesnt look the least bit shy either! With her primary feather loss being around her neck, when she gets her new feathers, they'll be all clean and glossy, it'll look like she has a scarf on!! She should be wearing a pretty spotted outfit, shouldnt she? Thank you for entering the poultry show!

No, Tootie, she's not the least bit shy! She's very intelligent and an excellent layer too, (tho, she's gone down to 2-3 eggs a week now). Today I noticed she was losing feathers underneath her too. I named her after Tootie on the the Facts of Life LOL

Ok, I have a really naked bird. My hen is a Red
Frizzle and she is a Bantam. When I got her the
feathers looked a bit oily and dirty so I named her ugly. She then began to change for the better and
looked just beautiful, too little, too late, we named
her "Ugly". Her is her BEFORE pic.

Now, here is where she earns her name. She is basically....NAKED. LOL

Now a back shot. I don't think a saddle will help her.

The good news is that she now has the nubbs...she is on her way to getting dressed. lol
