I think some chickens just fall for a certain chicken, just like with humans.. personality, figure, you name it.. they are in love!

I thought about separating the cockerels but I think it will be less stressful if i do it this way, because that would mean 2 cockerels in a small space and Rusty wouldnt let Freckles eat last time I had them both in the "bachelor pad".
yes, then it would be mating damage since i dont let them out of the barn til about 930 am. she is a favorite to mate, for sure.

How many pullets do you have with the 3 remaining hens and 2 cockerels? You might suddenly find that you have more bald females, once the current favourite and her pals are removed. The urge to mate will not stop. They will just transfer their attentions to other hens. Cockerels have a strong urge to mate but none of the balance and technique that a mature rooster has so they are hard on hens and worse still on pullets that often don't understand what is going on and don't submit.
