Hello, two of my hens wing feathers look like feathers are missing. They are acting normal and still laying eggs and comb is still bright red. The wings have been this way about three months. I thought it was possibly their first molt but they have been this way awhile now.

Some questions...

Do you have a rooster? His claws and spurs can damage the feathers on the backs and wings of your hens.

Have you checked them for mites or lice?

How many chickens do you have? Could these two be at the bottom of the pecking order and getting picked on/pecked at?

I have three hens total. My third hen looks perfect. I do have a rooster and he does favor the two with the damaged feathers.

I would bet the feather damage on their wings and back is from him mating them. A couple of my girls have that same pattern of feather damage from my rooster.

You can get saddles to put on their backs for protection. When they molt and regrow their feathers, the naked areas will regrow too.
