Molting

are chickens in pain when they are molting? I have one that is molting and she is very lethargic. I know molting is hard on them ,I was just wondering if they were suffering at this time if there was anything you could do for them to ease their pain

I have one in similar condition. I think they are more very uncomfortable than in pain. To me there is a big difference.
I just give her lots of good nutritional support. I've upped the protein from 19 to 20% with additional fish meal. When I bring them their afternoon Flock Raiser mash I mix in a handful of dried mealworms and 2 droppers of Poultry Nutri-drench every other day. It helps everyone.

Can depend on how 'hard' they molt.
Some birds it doesn't faze at all, others will isolate and not move much for a couple-few days before resuming mostly normal activity.

Giving them higher protein feed will help them in growing new feathers.
