Mom hen abandoned her chick... this is getting crazier!

No, he's much more than 12 days! He's between 8 and 12 weeks, I lost track but he was hatch quite a while ago. I don't know where he'll sleep tonight. He and mom were sleeping in a nest box together and he would stick his head out from under her wing, it looked like a two headed chicken!

I had the same thing happen of sorts. I had two hens sitting at the same time. One hens eggs hatched the other hens eggs did not, so they both started raisng the one chick. I think the aunt was more protective than its real mom. At night you would see the mom with the chick under her and the other hen sitting on both of them. Quiet funny.

at 12 weeks he should be fine. If he hooked up with your other broody thats cool but at 12 weeks just leave him be. I would just put him on the roost at night. He will catch on eventually.

Hi, I have a mama who wants to abandon her 3.5 wk old chick which is not feathered. I live in Oregon, fall night's are down in the 40's and daytime in 50's. Wondering if I need to provide heat, if hens won't tend to her/him? Or bring it in the house?
