I came to BYC looking for info off and on during the past summer when the chicks were still young. I knew nothing. The chicks had been gifted to me and I had no clue what to do, other than I had been a Mom myself for 4 kids. So I knew how to love chicks. And I did. And do.
my chicks go by the names above. There are 4. Originally there were 6, but I lost 2 while learning. I cried many days each time, and swore I would somehow provide a safe place for them.
they are Golden Comets which I have learned is an egg laying-created breed. They are charmers, and a beautiful combo of something like a RI Red and another whiter breed.
i am a gardener (not landscaper) by “trade” so live outdoors when the weather is good, and even when it rains if it isnt too cold. As a result, I am very aware of the changes that are happening with birds, bees, insects, and plants. And I am concerned, for sure. I have never used any poisons and rarely drive my car. We also make humanure, instead of having flush toilets. I am trying to adopt the belief that everything will adapt and adjust to the changes. Right now it does look iffy.
i have 4 kids who are now parents and raising their own. Their kids love my chickens! And now want their own. They call me Budgy. And they love that I have made my home into a barnyard with hay. The roost and safe haven is my old tool shed, on my porch. The chicks occasionally come into my kitchen when it is really cold. My grandkids love that! Me, too.
i think perhaps I was supposed to be a farmer of sorts. It seems to come naturally. Glad I got past the days of other “trades”.
love music. Once was a knitter. Maybe again, some day.
i think that’s it. Thanks for having this site, BYC.
