Momma said there would be days like this....

Just a thought. We lost 3 chickens to a cooper hawk two years ago. We strung clothesline and then covered the run with fruit tree netting. Lots of work, but no more hawk attacks. The netting and clothesline weren't expensive. You might try covering your run........Good Luck! Again, so sorry about your puppy......

The one thing that keeps me wondering is the blood the OP said was coming from the puppies mouth. Could that be from some internal injury? That part bothers me. At 8 weeks of age I would have taken the puppy to the vet to see what was wrong. Just burying him never will get to the cause.

Thank you for all the condolences. And as far as the hawks are concerned, it sounds like my chicks and adult chickens will be confined to their run for a bit, at least when I'm not out there to watch them.

Couple that on top of the fact that the only leghorn that I have that is actually laying ended up having an egg break inside of her so I had to put her in the tub with warm water, pull out what I found left over and hope that everything will be ok

MyStang - just wondering how in the world did you find out there was an egg broken inside of your chook?
Asking for symptoms should anything like that every happen to mine.

I went into the chicken coop at night to put them away and make sure that everyone was there and ok and when I looked at her on her roost I noticed yoke,(not the yellow yoke but the clear stuff,) hanging out of her vent and when I put her in the warm water I also saw what was a soft shelled egg. I took a hand on it and slowly, gently but firmly pulled all of it out. The rest was up to her. So far she seems active as usual, just haven't gotten any eggs from her, which I'm sure is normal. I also put out a completely separate feeder full of oyster shell to harden up the eggs. I normally mix the Oyster shell with their food but apparently that isn't doing the trick.
