Mom's favorite sayings

My Grannie always says " If you cant be good, be good at it."

If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all.

More than one way to skin a cat.

Catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

oh wait, those are things I say....

Isn't it strange that frequently we've gone from "I'll never be like the two of you." to the same mannerisms and/or sayings of dear old Mom or Dad.

I'm loving these bits of your heritage. Keep them coming. Are you smiling at the memories as you share with the rest of us?

Better tell me the truth, cause if i catch you lying to me, it'll hurt more.
Now i know why some animals eat their young..
I think they gave me the wrong baby at the hospital..

My favorite was from my great-grandma. I was visiting her when I was a young woman and had recently broken up with a boyfriend I really cared about. I felt bad and was talking to her about it. She said, "Don't you worry, there's a lid for every pot." Later on, I found my match and married him.

She was always so nice to me. She used to make sure she planted pansies in her garden every year, just because I liked them so much.

my grandpa was the one with the fun sayings,

he'd say "well that's the way the cookie crumbles" = it is what it is, can't do anything to fix it now

and lots of others that come to me now and then.

My grandma would say "handier than a pocket in a shirt" = I think that one is pretty self explanatory

my dad would always say "if I don't do x your momma will tear my head off" well, we never really believed him about that one
