Monsoon! Chickens clueless!

My flock doesn't care about rain. We even had a torando come through couple months ago, knocked a mile worth of power poles down, we we're trapped on farm for a day or so, but them damned chickens hunkered under a bush and lived to tell about it. I thought for sure they were gonners

Oh man, mine go out to see what's going on when it's hailing. They eat the hailstones like they are candy. One day I'm sure one of them will be struck dead; I'm pretty sure I know exactly which chicken it will be too. As others have mentioned, some are brighter than others. Some learn from experience. Some will just get wet.

Mine love to play in the rain! If I turn my hose on mist during the heat of the day they run like crazy. Let a thunderstorm with moderate rain come and they are out looking for bugs! They do go in the coup and bed down during a bad thunderstorm. It is so hot here that they enjoy getting cooled of with the rain and don’t get a chill.

My coop and run with roof on it. Coop is 5 x 8 run is 10 x 15 next month will be 25 x 10 as we will be adding 4 to 5 pullets. As you can see they are in full shade most of the day till around 3pm then they get some sun till about 4;30 when sun gets blocked by house next door. Also pics of how I did the roof.

That is why I don't like barred rock chickens. Dumb as a stump. And I imagine some other chickens are as well.

"Oh, LOOK, A hawk! want to be friends?" "Oh, Look, a raccoon!! Want to play??" "Oh, Look, water from the sky!! Let's just stand here and try to figure out where it's coming from!!!"

I've had smarter turkeys.

When I lived in MN the farms up there raise turkeys for Jennio. Some of them free range the birds and when ever they had rain storms come thru, they would be out picking up dead turkeys. Seems when it rains they look up, and end up getting water into their lungs, and it kills them. But we are talking of the domesticated birds, bred for slaughter.
Wild Turkeys on the other hand quite a bit smarter.
