Monster chick = Roo?

One of my Australorps looked like a giraffe compared to the others. She grew up to be a perfectly perfect hen.

i bought 6 from TSC and the guy that helped me said that the one bin was a couple days older then the other bins....and u can tell...the one from the older bin is getting feathers faster and even getting on top of the box i have in the bin and trying to "fly the coop"...lol...its soo cute to see there feathers spread out when they r soo little...

btw....i wish my chicks were as friendly as the ones in the pics...everytime i pick up one of mine they run and jump like im a big monster..lol...i have to pick them up and snuggle them in my hand to get it to be comfortable with me...

Aww the pic of your son is just adorable lol. I would guess buffy is a girl just because she's already getting a tail. Hard to say without knowing the exact age but pullets usually get tails in faster.

When I got my first batch a few years back, I intentionally picked one that I thought was a RIR cockerel. It stood taller, had spiky Wong feathers, had a huge red comb and was loud and bossy! Chest-butted all the other chicks...I now have a very bossy hen named "Rudy". RIR seem to mature quicker and get really big floppy combs compared to buffs and welsummers.

You're just going to have to wait til you see saddle feathers or an egg! My RIR is a silly bird. You'll enjoy her!
