Here is an egg that I collected on Monday I think. It weighed 3 oz. The other two weighed in at around 2 oz.

I seem to get lots of these huge eggs... is this normal? Every time I get one all I can think of is "ouch." Some won't fit in the egg cartons.

I used to have a white leghorn hen that layed double yolkers all the time. Her eggs were huge! I had heard that a hen that lays double yolkers won't lay them for long, but she laid one ever other day for five years, until the neighbor's dog got her.

sometimes when a chicken just starts laying you get bigger eggs but at about 1 year old they should lay only normal sized eggs

I got these eggs today. The one on the left weighs (large egg) 60 grams/2.11 ounces., the one on the right weighs (jumbo) 90 grams/3.17 ounces.

I weigh all of my eggs. Probably most people that do weigh their eggs, do it in ozs. I personally use grams.

Modern Sizes (USA)

Size Mass per egg
Jumbo, Greater than 2.5 oz. or over 69 g
Extra-Large, Greater than 2.25 oz. or 64-69 g

Large, Greater than 2 oz. or 56-63 g

Medium, Greater than 1.75 oz. or 49-55 g

Small, Greater than 1.5 oz. or 42-48 g

Peewee Less than 1.5 oz. or 42 g

Around Thanksgiving time we had a 100 gram egg..3.5 ounces then about a week later we had 2 new layers lay 75gram eggs in the same day.We also use grams not ounces for all of our eggs.

We have gotten about three of the Jumbo eggs out of my six hens. They are just over a year. The one layed with no shell was the wildest I have ever witnessed.
