dang, I wish I had known this sooner. We went to victor to buy one. It's nice, but apon closer inspection it's. Ot made right. The door to clean is only a bald door opening up from the bottom and no one can get inside to clean or of course paint, we already added new latches hate that there is a pop door on one side, window on one, egg box on an other and the the door to clean, shall I say lame door as its way to small for humans to get into. would be nice to have one side free from something so we could have put the coop right next to the building, now it's way out as the window needs sun, we need to get to the pop door which needs a board to walk down, etc. it's pretty crowded in that pen . I would have loved one like Doug's

Well, guess what? We have chicks, can not believe it, was floored to come home and see six chicks so far and two out of the next and her sitting there looking at them. I put her in the top nest and put a gate in front of her. hopefully that will hold her until all are hatched. I'm going to candle the remaining eggs. So we got 2 hatchlings from 2 white eggs, one blue egg, and 2 brown eggs. And one cream colored egg, very light cream color. Wonder what that is ? I'm so happy, chicks ! I will post pictures later

thanks , I'm so happy, these are the leghorns I hope, if not well we shall see. The gal i got the eggs from told me she had a big white rooster, and several white birds, I'm assuming there leghorns since the eggs were also white. One chick is yellow and brown spotted, and a brown spot on its head. There so tiny!
Yeah I think your chick is a he lol, so sorry but I can give you more chicks as I'm going to have lots extra! My other broody is sitting on auracana and ameraucana and RIR and austrolorp eggs. The rooster is auracana

Glad you will have lots of chicks Karlamaria. I think it is a good time to be raising them. Weather is turning warmer anyway. I am hoping I won't need any more chicks - even if I only get half a dozen hens out of the 13 it should work for us. If you need another rooster or two perhaps we could deal!

The boys and I started on the run today. Picked up all of the materials and I got a couple posts up, but it started raining and is still raining and blowing and 35 degrees here so we are all back in the house. The run will be small from my farm boy perspective, only about 220 SF, but will be totally enclosed so they cannot fly out and the hawks won't get them, we hope. Plan to let them out in the yard, supervised, to eat bugs once they get used to their new home. Planning to put them out there with the first good weather in May. They seem to be about 80% feathered out at this point!

I'll bite, DillonChix, what size is the guy's coop and how much does he want for it? I am quite guilty of chicken math. I have produced more than I have room for and so need to work on more coops, etc. It will be getting to the critical state in a few weeks when all the babies that I have hatched reach the size to desperately need to be outside. I have 50 babies inside the house right now that will need to find a home outside.

My hubby and I have been kicking around all kinds of ideas for housing.

oh can not wait to see the pen, hope you have plenty of girls and only one rooster! The baby's are cute, sure wish I knew what they were lol, the gal I got them from has not answered my emails et. Said big white rooster, and white girls, I figure they were leg horns since the eggs are white. Two chicks I can see now have brown dots, not many but about 6 dots on each, allcar yellow and white. . I'm praying no roosters, I feel for them so much. We can not have any here.
Glad I did not go to Billings today, wish I could have but I'm to afraid to drive I storms.

lol, oh my you got a big crew there lol. We had 5 in the house, I hated that I can not imagine 50 I'm pushing it now with what I have, way to many and more on the way. 10 hatchlings in 2 weeks, 4 from cackleberry coop, Oye what to keep and what to give to new homes.

That's the hardest part of raising the little kids. Deciding who is going to go and who gets to stay. But I can't choose until they get old enough to show what coloring and feathering potential, i.e. SOP, they may develop. That takes some growing before I can see the potential. There will be quite a few for sale after I make my choices when they are 12 weeks or older!
