Montana

I go there occasionally, I usually go to mintana mills, it's a mom and pop shop on the south side, sweet little old ladies. But sometimes I need to get a flock block or some waterers... I'm not sure how they wear out those things sometimes...

Highmountain chick:
Hi! Yeah another Montanan! I live about 1.5 hour south of you on hwy 89. I am trying to find some BC maran hatching eggs, but afraid to order by mail. Where do you get your eggs from? Did you have any luck with your hatch and do you sell your fertile eggs? I can drive to your area to get them (weather dependent of course!)

Welcome fellow Montanan! My husband calls our coop the tajma-coop or the chick-mahal....depending on the day! It's not all that fancy but sure is insulated and very happy spoiled chickens for 3 years now!

I'm hatching my first batch this week. Mine are birchen rather than black copper Marans. Fertility is usually alright, but I'll get a few batches hatched an I'll let you know. This is my third year of hatching these from my little group. Right now they went on break again, the slackers! Marans lay less consistently than egg type breeds. But I love their hardiness and excellent foraging. Unlike my legbars, I haven't lost any toes to frostbite, and only the tip of a point was lost this year during the -30° F weather this year. The legbars are more fragile, but are better layers, and are autosexing with pretty blue or blue green eggs. Crossing the two gives an olive green egg.
