Anyone Know of someone in the Missoula Area that sells hatching eggs? I am planning on hatching meat chickens for the first time this year and would prefer to purchase locally if possible. Also, looking for hatching ducks...lost 6 of my 7 gals to a raccoon family a few months ago. Otherwise, any place you would recommend for ordering them? I get my duckies from Metzer farms usually.

Well, I'm in Laurel and sell eggs, but nothing super meaty besides occasional Cornish bantams.

I'm really happy that winter finally came. I was worried about my fruit trees budding early or not getting enough cold to reset, and the dry warm winter was wreaking havok on my hay fields. It's a bonus if the cold thins out the recent flow of newcomers, not that I dislike people, there's just so many of them....

Good thing rats keep stealong my broody nests or id have tiny babies now. Hoping this late winter doesnt mean late spring

My first hatch comes this coming Wednesday. People want chicks early to be ready for the fair. I'll be hatching weekly after that, or until I run out of room or buyers.
That sounds so fun. I have birds coming in March through April for a smaller bird swap in May for MontanaFair 4Hers to get the last minute birds for their projects. Hoping it goes well enough we can do it next year too

I'm in Lockwood ( just east of Billings) and I have black silver marans, which are dual purpose birds that prove very tasty.
How are your birds holding up? I’m in Blue Creek and my thermometer in my coop says 0F. My girls refuse to leave their coop. I’ve been replacing their water every 30 minutes (I decided to WFH today because, heck no I’m not driving downtown just to sit in my office when I can do the exact same thing at home).

I broke down and bought a cozy coop radiant heater from Shipton’s but when I tested it out first in my house, the surface temp got to 170F! So I really don’t feel comfortable putting that in the coop.
